January --- BAMBOO TOILET PAPER
Anyone thinking about switching to a more eco-friendly lifestyle should consider swapping out their traditional (or recycled) toilet paper for bamboo toilet paper.
That’s right, bamboo toilet paper.
According to the Guinness World book of Records the fastest growing plant is bamboo. Some species grow about 3 feet per day. Choosing bamboo over trees to make paper products makes sense due to deforestation problems. Deforestation which is described as human-driven and natural loss of trees. Their loss affects ecosystems, weather patterns, wildlife, and even climate. Switching to bamboo seems like a logical choice without changing your day-to-day habits.
The biggest obstacle for many will be planning ahead to purchase it. Since we are in a pandemic, and I only shop online now to avoid contact with strangers as much as I can I ordered some from Amazon. I found the one that was reasonably priced compared to “regular” toilet paper. I ordered was Caboo Tree Free Bamboo Toilet Paper with Septic Safe Biodegradeable Bath Tissue. 2-ply 300 sheets per roll. Cost was 28.99 after tax ($0.40/100 sheets).
Pros for me:
I felt so much better about paper consumption when it is made from bamboo. Using this had emotional benefits for me. It made me feel like I’m making a small little difference in the world.
It shipped extremely fast.
The quality was fine. It’s not fancy. It’s not as soft as some of Charmin products, but it wasn’t as thin as some of the other cheaper brands we’ve used either.
Cons for me:
Though the price was reasonable, it was a little more expensive than what we normally buy but not much. It wasn’t as “plush” as what we normally buy either; however, that is more a luxury thing in my book. Obviously, until the world embraces it, it will probably stay a little more expensive.
If you are looking to make tiny changes to make a difference in preserving our planet’s resources this is definitely a great place to start. Even if it is switching out 50% of the time from your normal purchases that is still a step in the right direction.
The best way to truly make a decision is to buy it yourself and see what you think. Also, if you find one that you like better, please send me a message. I’m always looking for suggestions.
