The world is facing serious environmental challenges due to our un-ecofriendly choices. Most of us don’t even realize that how many single use plastic products we consume daily. Plastic is one of the main cause of ocean and land pollution. There are various products you can use as an alternative of plastic ones to sustain a healthy environment for not just human beings, but also the animals. You can start with making small changes in your kitchen which is an integral part of every household. Below are some eco-friendly options you can use as a replacement for plastic products to reduce your plastic consumption.

1. Reusable Food Storage bags

Mostly, we use plastic bags to store our food products, which are thrown into trash bins after a single use. These plastic bags usually end up in oceans and landfills having adverse effects on marine ecosystem and the overall atmosphere. As per the estimate of United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), around 27 million tons of plastic waste entered into landfills in the year 2018. In order to reduce your plastic consumption, switching to reusable items is a good choice. Reusable food storage bag is a sustainable alternative to single used plastic bags because it is durable, washable and easy to use. It keeps the food fresh and healthy for a longer period of time as compared to the plastic ones.

 2. Reusable Stainless Steel Water Bottles

Usually, we store water in our refrigerators in plastic bottles. These bottles reach the garbage after single consumption. The garbage is often thrown on streets where water get accumulated in them, making it a home for insects and mosquitoes which in turn adversely effects human health as they carry diseases. So, in order to avoid such unhygienic conditions, start using reusable stainless steel water bottles as they keep the water and cold drinks cool all day long even if you take them outside relative to the plastic ones. Moreover, they are economical as you do not have to buy them frequently and help you minimize plastic waste.

3. Bamboo Spoons and Spatulas

Another product you can use to decrease your plastic consumption is bamboo spoon. In our kitchen, we typically use plastic spoons to eat food. Plastic spoons break and mold easily which makes it difficult to use again. Switching to bamboo spoons and spatulas will help you cut back plastic from your kitchen. Bamboo spoons are long-lasting, strong, affordable as well as stain and odor resistant. Moreover, bamboo itself is a renewable material which has a minimum impact on the environment. It grows faster as compared to other plants without any application of pesticides which makes it a sustainable option to use in kitchen utensils. As per Guinness World of Records, Bamboo is considered to be the fastest growing plant. In this way, you will not only cut the plastic waste but also minimize the need of cutting down other essential trees that take a long time to grow back.
